Academics

Since 2000, we’ve been giving our kindergarten children the valuable skills of reading, writing in cursive, and learning their numbers, all while still having fun in the classroom. Plus, our program helps children to be prepared socially and academically for elementary.

Teaching our children to read phonetically opens the door which allows them to sound out words they have never seen. Five-year-old students learn to recognize and write the letters of the alphabet along with their sounds, and will actually begin reading by December! Our K4 class learns a portion of what we teach in K5, so even four-year-olds can begin to read at ODCA.

By using the A Beka Book curriculum in all our classes, we are ensuring future academic success. The strong foundation that students get in kindergarten continues throughout elementary, junior high, and high school.

The A Beka Book curriculum is designed to challenge students to excel academically. Since using the A Beka curriculum, on average, our students in elementary test out one and a half grades levels above the public school norm; and the high school tests out at post –high school.

ODCA’s exceptional reading program has a strong, systematic phonetic approach which builds independent, confident reading. By the third grade, students can read most anything, and even lower ability students learn to read successfully. Additional academic pursuits include language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

ODCA’s high school offers a college preparatory program of study with courses in physics, geometry, and foreign language. A variety of elective courses such as computer, speech, and more suit the academic interests of each student.
